Senior Data Software Engineer – Databricks & dbt

About the role

EPAM is looking for a Senior Data Software Engineer to strengthen its Data & Analytics program. You will focus on scaling the Databricks platform, migrating workloads from Teradata, and ensuring data quality through robust governance, testing, and CI/CD practices.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day support for the Data & Analytics team, triaging and resolving stakeholder incidents.
• Diagnose and fix broken dbt models, including compilation errors, test failures, schema drift, and stale dependencies.
• Monitor, debug, and repair Databricks workflows, jobs, clusters, and scheduling issues.
• Investigate data‑quality problems and pipeline failures, identify root causes, and apply corrective fixes.
• Maintain and improve dbt tests, documentation, and model configurations.
• Respond to ad‑hoc data‑fix requests, backfills, or re‑runs.
• Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to enhance alerting, add tests, and refactor fragile models.
• Keep runbooks and support documentation up to date and escalate complex issues when needed.

Required profile

• 3+ years of hands‑on experience with dbt (models, tests, macros, debugging).
• Proven experience with Databricks notebooks, jobs, workflows, and cluster troubleshooting.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to read/modify transformation logic.
• Familiarity with Git‑based workflows, pull‑requests, and version control.
• Proactive troubleshooting mindset with end‑to‑end issue ownership.
• Effective communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• English proficiency at B2+ level.
