Knowledge Engineer

About the role

The Knowledge Engineer will be embedded within the USAFRICOM Directorate to support the Chief Data & Analytics Office’s mission of digital modernization and AI/ML adoption across the AFRICOM enterprise. The role focuses on documenting, digitizing, and optimizing command workflows, designing semantic ontologies, and configuring Microsoft 365/DEOS tools to improve data accessibility and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Map, baseline, and digitize existing command workflows, identify bottlenecks, and transition manual processes into automated digital workflows using Agile practices (≈30%).
• Design, maintain, and document minimum viable ontologies in OWL/RDF/SKOS formats, ensuring metadata standards for integration with MSS and WDP (≈30%).
• Train Knowledge Managers and users on metadata practices and modern collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365, Databricks, and Palantir, promoting data literacy and workflow adoption (≈30%).
• Review technical work packages, manage agile work packages, and ensure delivery of Minimum Viable Product increments aligned with stakeholder needs (≈10%).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (mandatory) and 10+ years of experience in knowledge management, process engineering, or related fields.
• Proven experience leading cross‑functional teams in DoD or intelligence‑community environments and working within U.S. military headquarters or Joint Staff directorates.
• Hands‑on expertise configuring Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint administration, Power Automate, Teams governance).
• U.S. citizenship, eligibility for SOFA status, and a TS/SCI clearance.
