Senior Site Reliability Engineer – Cloudflare & Acquia CMS

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability, performance and security of a high‑traffic enterprise Acquia (Drupal) platform. The role focuses on assessing the current infrastructure and optimizing the multi‑tier caching pipeline from Cloudflare to the Drupal backend.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and document the existing architecture, including Cloudflare, Varnish, Memcached and Acquia hosting integrations.
• Analyse cache‑hit ratios, identify uncacheable components and propose improvements for edge and proxy caching.
• Compare configurations against Drupal, Acquia and industry SRE best practices and produce actionable road‑maps.
• Maintain and optimise the end‑to‑end caching pipeline (Cloudflare → Varnish → Memcached → Drupal) to reduce origin load.
• Implement robust cache‑invalidation strategies using Drupal cache tags, acquia_purge and Cloudflare API.
• Author and tune Varnish Configuration Language (VCL) files for custom headers, redirects and bypass rules.
• Set up monitoring, logging and alerting dashboards across Acquia logs, Varnish logs, Cloudflare analytics and APM tools such as New Relic.
• Participate in incident response, diagnose production bottlenecks and conduct post‑incident reviews.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience auditing complex web architectures and producing technical assessment reports.
• Hands‑on experience with the Acquia Cloud ecosystem and enterprise‑grade Drupal sites.
• Strong English proficiency (B2 level or higher).

Required skills

• Cloudflare configuration and API usage.
• Varnish caching, VCL scripting and performance tuning.
• Memcached installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
• Acquia Cloud platform, Drupal internals and cache‑tag mechanisms.
• Monitoring and APM tools (New Relic, Datadog).
• Log analysis (Apache/Nginx, Varnishncsa, Cloudflare Logpush).
• CI/CD pipelines (Git, Acquia Cloud Pipelines, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions).
