Engineering Head – Nuclear Fuel Cycle & Safety

About the role

The Engineering Head will lead the development of nuclear engineering capabilities within a leading interdisciplinary centre. This senior position is responsible for building expertise in fuel management, waste management, radiation protection, safety and emergency preparedness, while mentoring a high‑calibre team of engineers and technical specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Define and expand technical capabilities across the nuclear fuel cycle, waste management and radiation protection.
• Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists.
• Provide expert engineering advice, technical oversight and strategic direction.
• Review, validate and guide technical analyses, assessments and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with recognised safety standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Contribute to long‑term capability development and engineering support strategies.
• Collaborate with government, industry, academic and international stakeholders.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear or a related engineering discipline.
• Significant experience in the nuclear fuel cycle, waste management (front‑end or back‑end) and radiation protection.
• Site operational experience is highly advantageous.
• Proven track record of leading technical teams and delivering strategic projects.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and decision‑making abilities.
