Inside/Outside Cable Plant Technician II

About the role

The Inside/Outside Cable Plant Technician II joins GDIT to install, maintain, and repair telecommunications infrastructure for government customers. This position works on both interior and exterior plant, handling copper, coaxial, and fiber optic systems while operating heavy equipment on site.

Key responsibilities

• Install ducts, conduits, and cable ladders; pull and terminate copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cables.
• Test, splice, and repair interior and exterior cabling assemblies.
• Deploy fiber optic modems, multiplex equipment, patch panels, and distribution frames.
• Install lightning protection, grounding, and power connections.
• Set up cabinets, rack systems, and associated equipment components.
• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bobcats, cable reel trucks, and 20‑ton forklifts.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
• AA/AS degree or equivalent technical training.
• Minimum 3 years of related cable plant experience.
• Intermediate proficiency with both inside and outside plant tasks.

Required skills

• Copper and fiber optic cabling installation.
• Coaxial cable handling.
• Heavy equipment operation (excavator, backhoe, bobcat, forklift, jackhammer).
• Testing, splicing, and terminating of telecom cables.
• Installation of lightning protection and grounding systems.
• Setup of cabinets, rack and ladder systems, and distribution frames.
