Knowledge Engineer – AI/ML for USAFRICOM

About the role

The Knowledge Engineer will be embedded within a USAFRICOM Directorate to support the CDAO’s mission of digital modernization and AI/ML adoption across the enterprise. The role focuses on documenting, digitizing and optimizing command workflows, designing semantic ontologies, and configuring Microsoft 365 capabilities to improve data accessibility and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Process Intelligence & Workflow Optimization – map, baseline and digitize command workflows, identify bottlenecks and transition manual processes into automated digital workflows using Agile practices.
• Ontology Development & Data Standardization – design, maintain and document minimum‑viable ontologies (OWL, RDF, SKOS) and ensure metadata compliance for integration with MSS and WDP.
• Education, Training & System Adoption – train Knowledge Managers and functional users on metadata practices, knowledge capture, and modern collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365, Databricks and Palantir.
• Contractor Oversight & Agile Work Package Management – review technical work packages, evaluate scope and data‑flow functionality, and ensure delivery of Minimum Viable Product increments aligned with stakeholder needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (mandatory) as required by the DEOS contract.
• 10+ years of experience in knowledge management, process engineering or related fields, with leadership of cross‑functional teams in DoD or intelligence environments.
• Hands‑on experience configuring Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint administration, Power Automate workflows, Teams governance).
• Experience within U.S. military headquarters or Joint Staff directorates and familiarity with battle‑rhythm and command processes.
• U.S. citizenship, eligibility for SOFA status and a TS/SCI clearance.
