Diagnostics & Laboratory Specialist – GHS Project

About the role

The Diagnostics and Laboratory Specialist for GHS will support the Diagnostics and Laboratory Advisor in strengthening the laboratory diagnostic network across Kyrgyzstan. The role involves providing technical input to annual work planning, supporting the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture, and leading the development or update of guidelines and SOPs for the laboratory network.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical input and guidance to the laboratory and diagnostics component of the GHS project.
• Collaborate with national Technical Working Groups to develop and update laboratory guidelines and SOPs.
• Lead planning and conduct TWG meetings and coordination with local partners.
• Develop, implement and deliver training programs for laboratory specialists.
• Support national laboratory system strengthening through trainings and workshops for human, animal and environmental health sectors.
• Offer onsite and on‑the‑job technical assistance, conduct laboratory audits and ensure biosafety and biosecurity compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in medicine or biological sciences (Master’s preferred).
• At least 4 years experience in infectious disease diagnostics or laboratory systems strengthening.
• Proven experience in laboratory quality assurance, biosafety, biosecurity and audits.
• Demonstrated ability to train, mentor and develop training materials.
• Experience working with government officials, especially the Ministry of Health.
• Fluency in Kyrgyz and Russian; English fluency preferred.
