Knowledge Engineer – AI/ML & Workflow Optimization

About the role

The Knowledge Engineer will be embedded within the USAFRICOM Directorate to support the CDAO’s mission of digital modernization and AI/ML adoption across the AFRICOM enterprise. The role focuses on documenting, digitizing, and optimizing command workflows, designing semantic ontologies, and configuring Microsoft 365/DEOS tools to improve data accessibility and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Map, baseline, and digitize existing command workflows, identify bottlenecks, and create versioned workflow diagrams using process intelligence methods.
• Design, maintain, and standardize minimum viable ontologies (OWL, RDF, SKOS) and ensure metadata compliance for integration with MSS and WDP.
• Train Knowledge Managers and functional users on metadata practices and modern collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365, Databricks, and Palantir.
• Review technical work packages, manage agile work items, and ensure delivery of Minimum Viable Product increments aligned with stakeholder needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (mandatory for DEOS contract).
• 10+ years of experience in knowledge management, process engineering, or related fields.
• Proven experience leading cross‑functional teams in DoD or intelligence community environments.
• U.S. citizenship with eligibility for TS/SCI clearance and SOFA status.

Required skills

• Microsoft 365 configuration: SharePoint administration, Power Automate, Teams governance.
• Ontology development using OWL, RDF, SKOS.
• Power Apps and Power BI for dashboards.
• Familiarity with Databricks, Palantir, JIRA, and Slack.
• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning concepts.
