Knowledge Engineer

About the role

The Knowledge Engineer is embedded within a USAFRICOM Directorate to support the CDAO mission of digital modernization and AI/ML adoption across the AFRICOM enterprise. The role focuses on documenting, digitizing, and optimizing command workflows, designing semantic ontologies, and configuring Microsoft 365/DEOS capabilities to improve data accessibility and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Process Intelligence & Workflow Optimization – map, baseline, and digitize existing command workflows, identify bottlenecks, and transition manual processes into automated digital workflows using Agile practices.
• Ontology Development & Data Standardization – design and maintain minimum viable ontologies (OWL, RDF, SKOS) and ensure metadata standards for seamless integration into MSS and WDP.
• Education, Training & System Adoption – train Knowledge Managers and users on metadata practices, modern collaboration platforms (Microsoft 365, Databricks, Palantir), and promote data literacy.
• Contractor Oversight & Agile Work Package Management – review technical work packages for accuracy, evaluate scope and dataflow, and ensure delivery of MVP increments aligned with stakeholder needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (mandatory) and 10+ years of experience in knowledge management or process engineering.
• Hands‑on experience configuring Microsoft 365 (SharePoint administration, Power Automate, Teams governance).
• Experience within U.S. military headquarters or Joint Staff directorates, understanding battle rhythm and command processes.
• U.S. citizenship with eligibility for TS/SCI clearance.
