Telephone Technician II – Defense Red Switch Network

About the role

The Telephone Technician II supports the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) by installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications equipment for government customers. Working on‑site, you will ensure reliable voice communications across fiber and copper media while responding to emergency system failures.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair telephone and related telecommunications systems.
• Perform moderate equipment changes, including call switches, test trunks, and test links.
• Respond to emergency calls and system failures on the DRSN.
• Prepare reports, process new service requests, and determine installation methodologies.
• Verify services by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms, escalating issues as needed.

Required profile

• Associate degree (AA/AS) or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with telecommunications installations and troubleshooting.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
• Must meet DoD 8570.01‑M certification requirements (e.g., SPIN‑C).

Required skills

• Experience with switches and Inter‑Switch Trunks (ISTs).
• Knowledge of Department of Defense and commercial microwave/satellite systems.
• Ability to extend voice transmissions over fiber and copper media.
• Precision adjustment of switches, relays, and electrical control devices.
• Testing of circuits, equipment, and alarm systems.
