Commercial Manager (Fixed‑Term Maternity Cover)

About the role

mx51 is seeking a motivated lawyer to join as a Commercial Manager on a 6‑month fixed‑term maternity cover. You will work directly with the COO, shaping key commercial relationships, building and negotiating contracts, and driving growth for the payments‑as‑a‑service platform.

Key responsibilities

• Drive strategic deals by structuring, drafting and negotiating key customer, channel and partnership agreements.
• Lead high‑impact negotiations of complex, high‑value contracts to align with strategic objectives and mitigate risk.
• Shape commercial strategy by providing legal and commercial insights on new initiatives, product launches and market entry.
• Manage strategic partnerships, overseeing POS partner agreements and negotiating amendments.
• Own the commercial framework, developing a contract management system as a single source of truth.
• Collaborate across product, sales and finance teams, advising on contract interpretation and best practices.
• Optimise supplier relationships through strategic procurement and vendor management.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with 3‑5 years of experience in a reputable private practice or in‑house team.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• Ambitious and proactive, eager to transition from a purely legal role to a strategic commercial position.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strategic thinker capable of balancing legal risk with commercial opportunity.
